Radio Constiution

Preamble: The Bellarmine University Radio Association is created to encourage student interest and awareness of radio and related fields, including advertising, audio production, public relations, television broadcasting, etc.  It serves students by providing networking, job shadowing, and professional opportunities.

Article I: The name of this organization is Bellarmine University Radio Association.

Article II: The purpose of Bellarmine University Radio Association is to encourage interest in and awareness of broadcasting and related professions and to provide professional development opportunities for students interested in those fields.  Officers and members agree to abide by all of the policies and procedures of Bellarmine University, the Student Government Association, and the Bellarmine University Radio Association Staff Handbook.

Article III: Membership is open to students, faculty, and staff interested in the field of broadcasting without regard to race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, physical impairment, national or ethnic origin or age.  Members must be interested in the field of broadcasting, attend regular meetings, and must maintain a 2.0 GPA throughout the school year.  Officers must submit applications for directorships and shows to the faculty advisor and station manager.  The station manager position also follows an application process.  Station managers are chosen by the faculty advisor and the Publications Committee.

Article IV: Officers of the organization shall include a Station Manager, Program Director, Public Relations Director, Production Director, Digital Media Director and News/Sports Director.  Officers apply for specific positions and interview with the faculty advisor for the position for each academic year.

a. Duties of the Station Manager shall be to preside over the entire operation of the station, lead organizational meetings, regulate the Bellarmine Radio budget, create and upkeep required forms, monitor USPS mail, work as a liaison with the Student Government Association, and encourage the vision of Bellarmine Radio.  This position includes a stipend of $500 per semester funded by Bellarmine Student Government.

b. Duties of the Program Director shall be to preside over on-air production, manage and record logs, manage the station’s music library (screen songs, edit content, and upload songs), as well as approve live student/faculty and member programs and coordinate their efforts while encouraging the vision of the organization. This position includes a stipend of $200 per semester funded by Bellarmine Student Government.

c. Duties of the Director of Public Relations shall be to coordinate Bellarmine Radio events, and to facilitate the conception and circulation of promotional material for Bellarmine Radio and Bellarmine Radio events. The Director of Public Relations will also be responsible for monitoring Bellarmine Radio email accounts (responding to questions and requests as well as establishing contact with artists and celebrities for interviews, concerts, in-studio performances, etc.) and the coordination of fundraisers and advertising for the organization.  This position includes a stipend of $200 per semester funded by Bellarmine Student Government.

d. Duties of the Production Director shall include facilitating production of live and recorded studio performances, setup of audio production for Bellarmine Radio events, checkout of equipment, technical troubleshooting and training, and post-production of recorded material.  This position includes a stipend of $200 per semester funded by Bellarmine Student Government.

e. Duties of the News Director shall be to handle daily news reports that give an overview of campus events.  The News Director will also oversee coverage (digital recording) of special events and speeches on campus, and political related talk shows. This position includes a stipend of $200 per semester funded by Bellarmine Student Government.

f. Duties of the Sports Director shall be to oversee coverage of Bellarmine Athletics (play-by-play).  The Sports Director will also oversee management of sports and political related talk shows. This position includes a stipend of $200 per semester funded by Bellarmine Student Government.

g. Duties of the Director of Digital Media shall be to manage online information and media content, and to maintain the station’s website by keeping it up to date (announcements, featured artist, music charts, online calendar, staff profiles, audio/video archives).  The Director of Digital Media will also be responsible for managing Bellarmine Radio social networks, photo and video content, blogs, mobile media, and other online resources. This position includes a stipend of $200 per semester funded by Bellarmine Student Government.

h. Members of the organization shall fill vacancies first.  If there is no interest by members of the organization then the vacancy can be filled by someone that is not in the organization, Bellarmine that person still needs to have an interest in the field of broadcasting.

h. Officers may be removed by the station manager in consultation with the faculty director for failure to perform duties.

Article V: Each Director is required to have a committee.
a. Each committee shall be required to meet twice a month.
b. A quorum of 3 persons is necessary to transact business.

Article VI: Director Meetings shall be held weekly.

a. Special meetings may be called by the Station Manager, the Faculty Advisor, or the Dean of Students.  The Dean of Students could call a meeting if there is a member of the Bellarmine University Radio Association that is not maintaining the grades that are required to be a member.

b. A quorum of 5 persons is necessary to transact Bellarmine business.

Article VII: Departments may be formed by the majority vote of Bellarmine University Radio Association.

a. Departments of this organization are music, sports, news, programming, promotions, production, and underwriting.

b. The music department shall organize the station’s music library and make additions or deletions as seen to be appropriate.

c. The news department shall be responsible for the reporting of community or on-campus events and any news related talk shows.

d. The sports department shall be responsible for local sports event coverage and any sports related talk shows.

e. The programming department will monitor programming.

f. The promotions department will be responsible for preparing promotional proposals to secure prizes for on-air giveaway, organizing fundraisers, and designing organization-related flyers.

g. The production department works with the Production Director to maintain equipment.

h. The legal department works with the legal advisor to assure that licenses and legal matters are attended to.

Article VII: There are no dues for students to join the Bellarmine University Radio Association.

Article VIII: Faculty Advisors of Bellarmine University Radio Association shall be members of the University Department of Communication.

Article IX: The constitution of the Bellarmine University Radio Association may be amended by a majority vote of membership present at any regular meeting of the members, so long as it is a quorum, and approval by the Student Government Association is provided.
